November 2007

Next Wednesday Durham Mom’s Night Out will be holding our first cookie exchange!

We will bake enough for half a dozen cookies for each participant. So if there are 12 participants, we will make six dozen cookies and therefore receive (including our own) six dozen cookies.

Please wrap the cookies in saran wrap or put them in ziplock bags in half dozen bundles, to make the ‘exchanging’ as easy as possible. And don’t forget to bring a bag or a container big enough to take your loot home with you!

As well, in the spirit of giving, we will bring enough copies of the recipe we use for each participant (12 participants, bring 11 copies of the recipe). And if you’d like to make something other than cookies, like dessert bars, feel free. We’ll make this a ‘Christmas Treat Exchange’!

We would like to have a solid head count a week in advance to give everyone plenty of time to plan, grocery shop, line up childcare, type, and of course bake! Please RSVP no later than Thursday, November 29th for this event. If we haven’t heard from you by then, we will assume you can’t make it.

This meeting is also our book club night. After we exchange treats, we will be discussing November’s book The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

You don’t need to have read the book to participate in the cookie exchange; we spend plenty of time talking about all things non-book related. And vice versa; you don’t have to participate in the cookie exchange if you’d like to discuss the book. Just let us know that you won’t be exchanging cookies.

We will be meeting at JP Fitzpatrick’s in the AMC Entertainment Centrum at 8pm, in their private back room.

Happy Reading and Baking!

After a busy few weeks of scrapbooking and erotic excitement (!), tonight is a laid-back Durham Mom’s Night Out.

We’re meeting at good ol’ East Side Marios in north Whitbyfor some cheese cappelletti, funnel cake and chit-chat. I love it when the waitress asks if we’re going to share our gargantuan desserts, and we scoff at her.

C’mon out and join us!

After months of searching, we have finally found a place for the Mom’s to do SCRAPBOOKING!

JC’s Scrapbook Studio in Ajax has been kind enough not only to keep their studio open late for us to use, but will also be keeping their store open also.  So if you need any supplies, you can pick them up right there!  How convenient!  There is a $5.00 user fee, which is very reasonable.  And if you’re not into scrapbooking, you are welcome to join us to do any other type of craft you’re into – knitting, crocheting, chatting…is that a craft?

Directions to the studio are at www.jcscrapbook.com/location.php.  Feel free to bring a coffee or tea with you.

See you there!

Jen and Carly
